Born the only son of a poor funeral home director in a town with too many of them, Frank quickly sought any way out of Arkham he could find. However, because of his limited interests, Miskatonic
was the only university that offered a doctorate of Demonology (which was subsequently changed to "Biochemistry" at the time of graduation), so Frank ended up spending most of his life mere miles from where he was born. An
exceptionally gifted intellect, West got his first degree at the age of eighteen, in
Clinical Laboratory Sciences (hoping to become medical doctor like his grandfather). That was the same year he necrotized his first hyperspace
pleomorph (bystanders claim it was just the pizza man, but he knew better).

Despite his father's warnings, Frank was well on his way to following in the true footsteps of his grandfather (a man with a nototious reputation when he was fully alive). Only after the death, reanimation, and second death of his father, did Frank begin to have second thoughts. His father, a notorious vampire hunter and backgammon master in his spare time, was forced to sell their funeral home to Angus Romero right before he died, and this has caused Frank to be somewhat wary of Romero.
Frank and Barney once worked side by side on a regular basis, but they
disagreed on the subject of Frank's "overagressive and somewhat deranged" (as Barney phrased it)
approach to anti-interdimensional-incursive defense. Frank admits he is a bit trigger
happy...and mortar happy...and napalm happy. |
They parted ways and Dr. West
formed his own S&D unit called "Western Survivalists", a highly trained and
paranoid group of individuals who shoot and shoot and shoot (and questions never really enter into it). Details
of the "missing years" when Frank first left Barney's company are sketchy. He
spent some years in Tibet (sent there by friends after a twenty-three day
rant in which he claimed to have invented the closet and became dangerous to
himself and others) and returned with the new found ability to control his
violent impulses...sometimes.

During that same period, he studied parapsychology at Oxford, earning a
PhD in same; trained with Russian SPETZNAZ in their special ops unit,
"Shadow" (a unit of undetermined purpose); and toured with the Grateful Dead
for seven months. Frank also discovered evidence that Colonel Sanders is still alive (sort
of), and won't rest until he finds out what his true mission is.
Having mellowed to an almost loveable semi-psychotic genius, Frank
has gotten down to regular business with his hand picked spec-ops team of
extra-normal exterminators and currently leads Western Survivalists on most
of their operations.
He has no known living relatives (at least none that can be technically labelled as "living"). Frank likes spring days, walks in the sunshine and long mornings spent cuddling in bed (he asked us to put that their because he doesn't get to meet
many women).
