The SPONGE logo was designed by Historian Nichols, using a font called "Solstice of Suffering".
The design, while to the casual observer appearing to be dripping slime, is actually soaking it up, ala a real sponge.
SPONGE stands for "Stopping Powerful Organisms from N-Gulfing Everthing". Chet Dyer came up with the name and the meaning, so if you have a problem with it, you can blame him.
